Birds of splendor Failed |
We have 4 birds of splendor in Sweden. Kingfisher, Bee-eater, Hoopoe and European roller (in Swedish: Blue Crow) I hopes to catch them all on a picture one day. The common kingfisher can be found in southern Scandinavia and is classified as vunerable European Bee-eater is normally found in southern europe but has breeded in Sweden a few times, 2024 two couples succesfully breeded in southern Sweden where I as many others took fantastic pictures. Hopefully they are here to stay. Eurasian hoopoe is found in large parts of Europe, Asia and Africa. It breeded in southern Sweden from first half of the 19th century but vanished around 1920. It returned 1980-1990 as a rare breeding bird, after 2001 no sure breeding was been seen and it is now set as red listed and since 2010 is classified as nationally extinct. It has during the last few years been seen again seen very rarely. 2022 was a couple seen breeding outside Lund and got 2 chicks. Signs where placed asking people to keep distance, some unfortantely ignored this and close up pictures was shown on Facebook. By that time 1 chick was noticed outside the nest and soon the breeding couple was gone again after the failed breeding. European roller was breeding here until 1967 but now is classified as nationally extinct. From 1990 to 2021 it has been seen three times. I have been very lucky to get pictures on three of this 4 beautiful birds during 2024, the European roller seems to be a more difficult task but you never know. |
